Course Objective :
– This course aims to start identification of all drilling equipment and practices used or done on drilling rigs and at its different capacities and increases the awareness of how everything works on rig site.
– The trainer will be able to know the components, the parts, the processes, safety measures and then the complicated procedures used in preparing muds, completions, stuck pipe and all drilling normal and abnormal operations.
– This aims to help the trainee to be able to identify the deviation from normal conditions of drilling practice and better understands the running operations.

 

Course Structure :
We recommend personnel in the following positions should attend the appropriate level of training and assessment:
Level-1: Roustabouts, Floor men and Derrick Men – related to the basic identification of rigs different categories, components, calculations, auxiliaries and safety measures related to these components.
Level-2: A.Ds to Rig managers – related to the normal drilling operations and normal practices of making hole, preparing muds, casing and cementing and testing and completing wells.
Level-3: A.Ds to Rig managers – related to the non-routine operations and complications in drilling regarding Controlled directional drilling, fishing and well control situations.

Course Content

The rig and its maintenance

Level 1

  • The rotary rig and its components
  • The bit
  • Drill string and drill collars
  • Rotary, swivel, Kelly, tongs and Top drive
  • The blocks and drilling line
  • The drawworks and the compound
  • Drilling fluids, mud pumps and conditioning equipment
  • Diesel engines and electric power
  • The auxiliaries
  • Safety on the rig

Normal drilling operations

Level 2

  • Making hole
  • Drilling fluids
  • Drilling a straight hole
  • Casing and cementing
  • Testing and completing

Non-routine operations

Level 3

  • Controlled directional drilling
  • Open-hole fishing
  • Blowout prevention

Level-1 training course must be a minimum 25 hours excluding examination time.

Level-2 training course must be a minimum 25 hours excluding examination time.

Level-3 training course must be a minimum 25 hours excluding examination time.
